中华民族有着善治水的优良传统。中国大运河是古代劳动人民创造的一项伟大水利工程，由京杭大运河、隋唐大运河、浙东运河三部分构成，全长近3200公里，对中国政治统一、经济发展、文化繁荣发挥了重要作用，是中华民族伟大创造力、凝聚力和生命力的代表，是展现中华文明突出特性的鲜活文化符号。2014年6月22日，中国大运河在第38届世界遗产大会上被正式列入《世界遗产名录》。
The Chinese nation has a tradition of excelling in water management. The Grand Canal, a monumental hydraulic engineering project created by ancient laborers, comprising three sections: the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the Sui-Tang Grand Canal, and Zhejiang-East Canal, with a total length of nearly 3,200 kilometers. It played a pivotal role in China's political unification, economic development, and cultural prosperity. As a testament to the nation's creative prowess, social cohesion, and enduring vitality, this iconic waterway stands as a vivid cultural symbol showcasing the distinctive features of Chinese civilization. On June 22, 2014, the Grand Canal was officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 38th session of the World Heritage Committee.
新时代以来，以习近平同志为核心的党中央高度重视大运河的保护、传承、利用。2017年2月，习近平总书记来到北京通州大运河森林公园，察看大运河沿岸生态环境治理成果，强调“保护大运河是运河沿线所有地区的共同责任”。同年6月，总书记对建设大运河文化带作出重要指示：“大运河是祖先留给我们的宝贵遗产，是流动的文化，要统筹保护好、传承好、利用好。”
Since the dawn of the new era, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has prioritized the protection, inheritance, and utilization of the Grand Canal. In February 2017, President Xi visited Beijing's Tongzhou Grand Canal Forest Park to inspect ecological restoration achievements along the canal, stressing that "protecting the Grand Canal is a shared responsibility for all regions along its banks." Later that year in June, he issued crucial directives on developing the Grand Canal Cultural Belt: "The Grand Canal stands as our ancestors' precious legacy—a living cultural heritage that demands coordinated efforts to protect, preserve, and utilize it effectively."
