马来西亚政府已下令暂停由中国企业承建的价值约220亿美元的三个大型项目，包括长688公里，价值高达200亿美元的东海岸铁路（East Coast Rail Link，东铁）项目以及两条造价均超过10亿美元的管道。

The Malaysian government has ordered to suspend three large projects under construction which worth about US$22 billion and is contracted by Chinese companies. Those three projects includes East Coast Rail Link project with a value of US$20 billion and a length of 688 kilometers, and two pipelines whose cost is more than $1 billion.

马来西亚财长林冠英表示，唯有建设方对该项目大幅降价，该项目才会有财务和经济上的可行性。他强调，马来西亚政府目前只是准备与中方重新磋商合同，而非取消该项目。

Malaysian Finance Minister Lin Guanying said that the project will only be financially and economically viable if the construction party cuts the price sharply. He stressed that the Malaysian government is only preparing to renegotiate the contract with China instead of canceling those projects.

中方承建公司中国交通建设公司表示，此举将可能对中方造成额外费用、损失和损坏，希望双方尽快达成协议。

The Chinese construction company, China Communication Construction Company Limited, said that the suspension may cause additional costs, losses and damage to them. It is hoped that two sides will reach an agreement as soon as possible.  

丝路智谷研究院院长兼首席经济学家梁海明认为这一最新举措很可能是马哈蒂尔为了争取访华的‘筹码’，以中方最为关注的项目来‘讨价还价’。

Liang Haiming, dean and chief economist of the China Silk Road iValley Research Institute, believes that this suspension is likely to add an odd for Mahathir’s visit to China through bargaining over those projects that China concerns best.
